Sylhet City needs to be made eight times bigger: Foreign Minister

Shafi Sammi Mahdi:

Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen thinks that Sylhet City Corporation needs to be increased eight times, not twice. He said the size of Sylhet City Corporation (CSIC) has been doubled and a public notice has been issued. According to the notification, the size of the city will be twice as large as it is now. However, according to the master plan, the city needed to be at least eight times bigger.

He was speaking as the chief guest as a local MP (Mahanagar-Sadar) at a meeting on the ‘Agamir Sylhet’ project at Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscape, and Settlement, an affiliate of the Bengal Foundation, presents this vision for the development of Sylhet under the name ‘Sylhet of the future’.

Nusrat Sumaiya, Head, Research and Design Department, Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscape, and Settlement, presented the ‘Agamir Sylhet’ project at a meeting chaired by Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque. Architect Shakur Majid and General Secretary of Bangladesh Environment Movement (BAPA) Sylhet Abdul Karim Chowdhury addressed the meeting. City planners, architects, engineers, including councilors-officers of SCC, were present.
